Woodward MPC has had a long heritage of supplying high performance motors, controllers, and sensors as individual components and as integrated electro-mechanical systems. A natural progression of this activity is to blend the benefits of fluid systems with electric motion control. To optimize this effort, Woodward MPC has developed a four-quadrant capable variable displacement pump that integrates with our existing motor-controller designs. With these basic building blocks, it is easy to supply a wide variety of linear or rotary EHA solutions to market needs.
Some of the notable advantages of EHA technology include precise position control, fail-safe operation, simple redundancy management, and speed ratio regulation. Along with these features, comes an innate ability to eliminate most leak sources that occur in centralized hydraulic systems, because of the elimination of all external fluid control lines, and internal high speed dynamic rotary seals.
Mathematical modeling of our initial designs in the earliest stage of new prototype procurement hastens a low risk solution for the desired system. This is due to the fact that each module has well known characteristic parameters from prior experience. Uniting Woodward MPC brushless DC motor controls with a high performance VDP provides an efficient, high power density package with robust reliability.
