Prototyping Process
Woodward MPC understands that time is critical when developing a prototype. And, Woodward MPC also knows that time is not the only factor when you need cost-effective, high-performance hardware.
To ensure smooth prototype production without compromising price and performance, Woodward MPC employs its 40 year proven modular design approach.
Woodward MPC's modular concept allows for the complete interchangeability of subassemblies. Standard-size frame modules for motors, gearheads, position transducers, linear modules and electronics allow Woodward MPC design engineers to develop complex motion control systems that meet your form, fit and functional requirements.
Woodward MPC employs all of the appropriate engineering disciplines necessary to develop the individual components and ensure that they will operate correctly and reliably as a system. For example, Woodward MPC's own RVDTs, motors and electronics are integrated into Woodward MPC's actuation systems; all of these components are designed, tested, manufactured and inspected using the same processes and standards. And with concurrent engineering, we can smoothly coordinate production schedules.
Modular design reduces costs due to the use of standard components; often only minor modifications to our proven modules are needed to produce a new end item.
Standard modular design offers you improved lead time. Woodward MPC does not make its prototypes from scratch; rather, Woodward MPC combines existing components in the design and manufacture of your customized item.
Woodward MPC has extensive experience with these particular components. Therefore, Woodward MPC's modular design approach allows for a better transfer of lessons learned. Since many modularized designs have proven the test of time in similar applications, Woodward MPC is able to design units that utilize actual test data increasing prototype confidence and further reducing development time.
Woodward MPC also undergoes constant product innovations to improve the reliability and quality of its standard modules guaranteeing that you will receive the best units.
With the required meetings accomplished, final drawings approved and planning tasks completed, Woodward MPC is ready to manufacture the first prototype unit for testing and shipment.
Woodward MPC can provide prototyping modeling from stereo lithographic mock-ups, to brassboarding a system, to a complete functional prototype. We maintain a prototype system and a dedicated machine shop to efficiently provide you with a complete understanding of your electromechanical system prior to production commitment.
Woodward MPC's concurrent engineering benefits the customer by supplying a truly coordinated effort and assuring that performance, reliability, price and delivery targets are achieved. Our modular design approach works to further enhance concurrent engineering goals. Woodward MPC understands that time is critical in prototype development.
